Eastside Youth Concert Band
Hello Eastside Band Directors and Students!
Announcing year #5(!) of our youth concert band program to provide enhanced musical experiences for advanced high school and exceptional middle school students from Sammamish, Issaquah, Snoqualmie, North Bend, Bellevue, Kirkland, Renton, Maple Valley, Redmond and the surrounding areas. Most practices will be held at Pacific Cascade Middle School in Issaquah.
For Summer 2023: Auditions are due July 21, 2023 at 11:59pm, dates are August 7-11 each evening. See the summer band page for more information: Summer Band!
For Academic Year 2023-24 (year #6!): We will moving to Tuesdays, 7-9pm. Auditions due October 6 at 11:59pm (same as WIBC), and the first rehearsal on October 17.
Audition information is as follows:
To join the band, submit links to brief (1-2 minute) videos on a cloud-based sharing platform like Youtube (make them "unlisted") on one (or more) of the following instruments: Flute, Piccolo, Oboe, clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Tuba or Percussion that shows:
1) an example of your lyrical playing (something slow and pretty)
2) an example of your technical playing (something fast and flashy)
3) chromatic scale articulated (not slurred) from your lowest note to your highest note at a comfortable speed with your best tone quality.
Percussionists should include playing from both snare drum and mallets.
You can combine your videos into one video if you like.

There is no fee to audition. If you play more than one instrument, send a separate audition for each instrument you are interested in playing. For example, if a flute player plays piccolo, send a separate piccolo audition, if a trumpet player plays French Horn, send auditions for both. If there is enough interest, two bands differentiated by ability demonstrated by the auditions will be formed.
You are welcome to use selections from All-State or WIBC audition materials, available online from the links following, or etudes and excerpts from solo literature. HS Solo & Ensemble Festival and HS Band/Evergreen auditions are shortly after ours, so this audition can help to prepare you for those.
